The LEGO Group is expanding its factories in the Americas.

This week, the global toy company officially opened an expansion at its factory in Monterrey. As part of a $500 million investment, this new expansion will increase production capacity in order to meet growing, long-term demand globally.

“Today marks an exciting milestone for our factory in Nuevo Leon; we are the largest LEGO manufacturing facility in the world,” says Nancy Sanchez, senior vice president of Americas manufacturing at LEGO. “We have amazing colleagues, a pool of talent to recruit thanks to a strong labor market and education system, and a positive operating environment. Combined, this has given us the confidence to continue to invest in the site to support growth in the region.”

LEGO’s expansion includes a fully automated high-bay warehouse and a building dedicated to assembling and decorating LEGO products. Although this first phase of the expansion was completed in 2022, the multi-year investment includes a new molding building that’s set to open in 2024.

Additionally, in June LEGO announced a $1 billion investment in a new manufacturing facility in Virginia. The company is focusing on expanding its global manufacturing network and locating factories close to major markets. LEGO currently has five manufacturing sites on three continents, but by the end of 2025, it will expand to seven.
